Living Streets Alliance (via the City of Tucson Safe Routes to School program) is teaming up with Toole Design Group, a national planning, engineering and landscape architecture firm specializing in bicycle and pedestrian transportation, to host Safe Routes to School (SRTS) travel planning workshops at our SRTS pilot schools the week of February 16, 2015.
The focus of the workshops is to develop SRTS plans that include creative yet practical solutions – especially relating to infrastructure – for improving access to and from school for kids. During the workshops, we’ll explore the physical environment around each school and meet with school district personnel, school staff, interested parents and students, City and County officials, and other stakeholders to better understand the safety and comfort needs/concerns of students and parents.
We thought that Peter Howell Neighborhood residents might be interested in attending one or more of the sessions since a lot of the discussion will also be relevant to the neighbors who live, walk, and bike in the school area. The meeting schedule for Howell Elementary is as follows:
Location: Howell Elementary (meeting room TBD)
Workshop: Monday, Feb 16 (2pm -3:30pm)
Plan Review Meeting: Tuesday, Feb 17 (3pm-4pm)
The workshop will include a walkabout around the school and gathering input from all participants and stakeholders. In the Plan Review Meeting, Toole Design Group will present their initial findings and preliminary recommendations.
We are compiling a list of participants and space is limited so please RSVP if you’re interested in attending and don’t hesitate to email me or call me at 440-9131 if you have any questions. Feel free to share this with your neighborhood listserve and if other neighborhood residents would like to participate, please ask them to get in touch with me. We hope to see some of you there!
Best wishes,
Evren Sonmez, Living Streets Alliance
